Modern Aircraft assembly requires great skill and specialized tools and fixtures. Air frame and fusilage assembly utilizes rivetting technology and the use of special fasteners. Much aircraft assembly is done by trades people using hand tools. Aircraft assembly because of low volumes and special processes does not lend itself to high volume automated assembly by unskilled or semi-skilled labour with extensive use of robotics or semi-robotics like the automotive industry is able to utilize.
Forward sells the Avro Tools line of specialty assembly tools and drilling and metal finishing tools. Much of this line is designed and manufactured in Montreal. We are proud to represent this Canadian product which is used by Bombardier, Pratt and Whitney and Rolls Royce.
Incidently the aerosoace industry utilises our air bearing technology( featured elsewhere on this site) is used to move large fusilage sections down the assembly line and to open and close massive baffle doors on jet engine engine test cells.
